Improving the Students' Speaking Ability by Using Funny Stories at the XII-3 Grade in Exact Class of Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 Watampone

Thesis Abstract

                                                                                        

Ikrar, 02104019: Improving Students’ Speaking Ability by Using Funny Story         (A Classroom Action Research at the XII-3 grade in exact class of Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 Watampone in). Final project: Sarjana Degree of English Education Study Program, Tarbiyah Department of STAIN Watampone, 2014.

            This research is based on the important of speaking skill to communicate with other people. There are some elements of speaking such as accuracy and fluency that have to be mastered by students in order to be good English speakers. In this research, the researcher used funny stories to improve students’ speaking skill.

            The objective of this research is to explain the use of funny stories to improve the students’ speaking ability of the XII-3 grade in exact class of MAN 1 Watampone. The participants of this research were 27 students. This research is Classroom Action Research that was done in two cycles where each cycle consisted of four meetings. The data collection was done using observation and test. The data from the observation that had been taken from every cycle analyzed descriptively while the data from test were analyzed quantitatively.

            The result of this research shows that using funny stories can improve students’ speaking skill. This is proven by students’ test score that improved in every cycle. In the pre- cycle the score of class percentage was 14.81 %, the first cycle, the score of class percentage was 40.74 % and in the second cycle students got 70.37%.

Ikrar, 02104019: Meningkatkan Kemampuan Siswa Berbicara dengan Menggunakan Lucu Cerita (A Penelitian Tindakan Kelas di XII-3 kelas di kelas yang tepat dari Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 Watampone di). Tugas akhir: Sarjana Tingkat English Program Studi Pendidikan, Tarbiyah Jurusan STAIN Watampone, 2014.

  Penelitian ini didasarkan pada pentingnya keterampilan berbicara untuk berkomunikasi dengan orang lain. Ada beberapa unsur berbicara seperti akurasi dan kefasihan yang harus dikuasai oleh siswa agar penutur bahasa Inggris yang baik. Dalam penelitian ini, peneliti menggunakan cerita-cerita lucu untuk meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara siswa.

  Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menjelaskan penggunaan cerita-cerita lucu untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa dari XII-3 kelas di kelas yang tepat dari MAN 1 Watampone. Para peserta penelitian ini adalah 27 siswa. Penelitian ini adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas yang dilakukan dalam dua siklus dimana setiap siklus terdiri dari empat pertemuan. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan observasi dan tes. Data dari pengamatan yang telah diambil dari setiap siklus dianalisis secara deskriptif sedangkan data dari uji dianalisis secara kuantitatif.

  Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa menggunakan cerita lucu dapat meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara siswa. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan nilai tes siswa yang meningkat pada setiap siklus. Pada siklus pra skor persentase kelas adalah 14,81%, siklus I, skor persentase kelas adalah 40,74% dan pada siklus II siswa mendapat 70,37%.
